When can I register?
Brooklyn Conservatory operates two 15-week semesters for private instruction, Music Adventures, Suzuki instruction, group classes, and ensembles; and an 8-week summer program. Students may register for private lessons in any instrument or voice at any time during the year and pay the prorated cost of the remaining lessons in the semester. Students may join group classes up to four weeks after the semester has begun (and pay the prorated cost) with the permission of the instructor. See the calendar for fall and spring semester pre-registration and registration dates.
How do I register?
Registration can be done in person or on the phone by calling 718-622-3300 x10.
Can I try before I buy?
Yes. If you plan to register for private lessons for the first time, you may pay for an individual trial lesson with no obligation to register for further lessons. Trial lessons may be rescheduled once with 24 hours’ notice. In order to receive a refund, trial lessons must be cancelled with 24 hours’ notice. Prospective students also may audit one group class per semester. The audited class session is billed only if the student decides to enroll for the remainder of the semester.
How do I pay for my classes?
Pay by phone with all major credit cards, or in person by check, money order, or credit card. Payment for classes that cost less than $300 must be made in full at the time of registration. For classes that cost more than $300, a payment plan is available (fall and spring semesters only). Contact the registration staff for complete details at 718-622-3300 x10..
Other fees
The following are nonrefundable fees, which are assessed in additional to lesson and class tuition: Registration fee: $35 paid once per school year (fall and spring semesters) per family account. Installment fee: $9, added to each installment made on the payment plan. Returned check fee: $30. Late payment fee: $30.
What happens if my account is not current or my check is returned?
If your account is not current, you may not enroll for further lessons or classes until outstanding balances are paid. If your check is returned for insufficient funds, subsequent payment can be made only by money order or certified check.
Is financial aid available?
Yes, need-based financial aid is available each semester by application. Students receiving financial aid must reapply for aid each semester. Contact the registration staff for information on deadlines and to obtain an application, or download a financail aid application here.
What is the absence/makeup policy?
Absences from individual lessons: If the student is unable to attend a lesson, the school or teacher must be notified 24 hours in advance. One excused absence, for which the teacher or Conservatory has been notified within this timeframe, is allowed per semester and will be made up by the teacher. An unexcused absence is one in which the school has not been given 24 hours’ notice and therefore will not be made up. If a student is absent for three consecutive weeks without notice, the student will be considered withdrawn and will forfeit the lesson time. Missed lessons due to the teacher’s absence are always made up. Makeups are not given for student absences at group class sessions.
