A Sound Investment

Dear Friend of the Conservatory,

If you’ve received this letter, you’re familiar with the Brooklyn-Queens Conservatory of Music. You know that the Conservatory –

“Promotes individual and community growth through music, and is committed to making music accessible to people of all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels. Through our long-standing commitment to the highest quality in arts education, the Conservatory has the distinction of being one of the oldest and largest community music schools in the nation.”

While that’s all true, we’re so much more! In fact, the Brooklyn-Queens Conservatory of Music can serve as one’s lifelong musical home, from our Music Adventures program for children as young as 18 months to adult performers who take studio classes or participate in our Community Orchestra, Community Chorale, or Jazz Gospel Choir offerings.

We also have many programs which reach well beyond the confines of our facility in Park Slope –serving thousands of children and families in their own neighborhoods. Music Partners takes music education to more than 5,700 students in 30 public schools, day care centers, and senior centers. We provide music instruction that is, unfortunately, no longer found in most of our public schools…and we do so in areas where kids would have little or no access to such an education otherwise.

Unique in Brooklyn, our highly regarded Music Therapy program serves 600 children and adults with special needs onsite at the Conservatory and at 13 partnering sites… wherever there is a need… providing the joy and peace of mind that creative expression through music can bring.

But we need your help if we are to keep the Conservatory financially stable and accessible to all.

I know you’ve heard this before, but every dollar helps, especially since this year your contribution will go twice as far as ever before.

Recognizing the important role the Conservatory plays in the life of our community, the Brooklyn Community Foundation has generously agreed to match – dollar for dollar – all contributions up to a maximum of $15,000!

Your donations help the Conservatory keep its outreach programs affordable to our local schools; provide scholarship assistance to make music lessons and ensemble participation accessible to all, regardless of their economic situation; and help maintain our landmark Park Slope facility as one of New York City’s most important cultural assets for another hundred years.

I hope this year you will consider a gift of $100 or more which will help us meet – or exceed! –our Brooklyn Community Foundation challenge.

If you aren’t able to participate at that level, your contribution of $50 will still help us keep the Conservatory’s programs strong and available to everyone. Of course, any gift…large or small…is much appreciated and gratefully accepted.

Also, the first 100 donors to make a gift online will receive a free tote bag!

As the parent of four children who study at the Conservatory, I’ve seen first hand the extraordinary talent and teaching skills of our faculty as well as the dedication of our staff.

In my role as Board Chair, I’ve had the opportunity to meet representatives of our funder organizations, audience members at concerts, and elected officials. They all express appreciation for the Conservatory as one of Brooklyn’s most valuable cultural assets, as a place where they’ve heard great music, and sometimes as filling a crucial gap in school or social services programming.

All refer to the strong spirit of the Conservatory as a dedicated community of world-class teaching artists, staff, and Board members working hard to fulfill our mission.

I invite you to join with me at this special time of year to help us meet our Brooklyn Community Foundation challenge and – in doing so – celebrate the Conservatory’s legacy and preserve its programs for our children, our selves, and future generations.

Thank you for your consideration this holiday season and for helping us bring music to the community.

Sincerely,
Badecker signature
